Irene Brafstein

Studio teacher and actress Irene Brafstein died April 22 in Calabasas of lung cancer. She was 72.

Brafstein’s students included actresses Jodie Foster, Winona Ryder, Molly Ringwald and Brooke Shields.

Her acting credits include the films “Pretty in Pink,” “The Breakfast Club” and “Edward Scissorhands” and the TV shows “Sister, Sister” and “Saved by the Bell.”

She is survived by her mother; a daughter, film director Laura Keats; and a grandson.
