Actress and singer Carmelita Faye Ulven Corps died of cancer Aug. 18 in Panorama City. She was 72.
Better known as Carmelita Wayne, Corps was a performer with the USO during World War II.
She acted in more than 65 live and on-camera productions, and worked most recently with the Jill-More Brown Players repertory company.
Corps was a graduate of the Pasadena Playhouse College of Theatre Arts, and served on the Pasadena Playhouse Alumnae & Associates board of directors for many years. She received the organization’s Keeper of the Flame Award.
Additionally, Corps was involved with the Pasadena Playhouse actors workshops and helped to originate and run the Playhouse docent tours program.
A member of the Society of Singers choir, Corps was honored with the SOS Volunteer Award.
She is survived by two daughters and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held tonight at 7:30 on the main stage of the Pasadena Playhouse.
