MTV India flag flap

Channel agrees to drop colors from logo

NEW DELHI — Music entertainment channel MTV has agreed to drop the colors of India’s national flag from its on-screen logo.

A senior MTV exec met with Interior Minister Lal Krishna Advani and ”promised to comply with existing regulations or laws of the country,” the govern-ment said.

Earlier this week M.B. Naqvi, the Indian Minister for Information & Broadcasting, accused MTV of misusing the Indian flag as part of its logo. Naqvi said legal action would be taken against the broadcaster if the logo wasn’t changed.

The MTV logo in the upper right-hand corner of Indian TV screens had been cloaked in the orange, white and green of the country’s flag since Aug. 15, its independence day.
