Becoming the latest player in the increasingly crowded field of online music delivery, K-Tel has pacted with Liquid Audio to license the latter’s delivery technology to K-Tel Express, a burgeoning online music site.
Under the terms of the pact, Liquid Audio’s technology will enable K-Tel Express to offer 5,000 songs, including selections from K-Tel’s master catalog of 3,000 songs. The technology will permit the preview, purchase and direct download of the tracks, which include Chubby Checker’s “The Twist” and Leslie Gore’s “It’s My Party,” among thousands of others.
K-Tel Express will also include a link to Liquid Audio’s Web site. The companies plan an extensive cross-promotional campaign to herald the association.
“Liquid Audio is the leading force in our arena that provides the most efficient, technologically advanced and secure digital distribution systems,” said Mark Margiotta, veep of K-Tel Intl.
Other K-Tel Express features will include the ability to create customized CD compilation albums by pulling tracks from its master catalog.
According to K-Tel execs, the Liquid Audio pact allows K-Tel to compete as a full-service online music entity in the league of such players as CDNow, N2K and Amazon.com.
