Tobis bags Binoche pic

$17 mil pic skedded to start shooting in September

CANNES — Paris-based Le Studio Canal Plus has kicked off its Cannes fest biz by selling all German-speaking rights to Tobis for the Juliette Binoche-starrer “Les Enfants du Siecle.”

Directed by Diane Kurys, the $17 million love story between George Sand (Juliette Binoche) and Alfred de Musset (Benoit Magimel) is in pre-production and is set to start lensing in September between France and Italy.

Pic arrived on the desk of Studio Canal Plus sales head Daniel Marquet just days before Cannes got under way, following the decision of Les Films Alain Sarde to co-produce with Alexandre Films’ Robert Benmussa.

Studio Canal Plus has a 49% stake in Les Films Alain Sarde.

Pre-Cannes competition was particularly fierce among Gallic sales teams to rep the film, with both TF1 Intl. and UGC Intl. making strong pitches.
