Regal chief feted for biz contribution

Michael L. Campbell, prexy and CEO of Regal Cinemas, will receive the 1999 Robert W. Selig ShoWester Award on March 9 at Bally’s hotel and casino in Las Vegas.

Campbell will receive the award at ShoWest ’99’s opening ceremonies. The award honors individuals who demonstrate a dedication to the exhibition industry and its causes.

Between 1990 and 1998, Campbell augmented Regal’s growth to 3,300 screens at 388 sites in 19 states, including the purchase of the 637-screen Birmingham, Ala.-based Cobb chain and Regal’s merger with the 835-screen Portland, Ore.-based Act III circuit.

Previous winners include Sumner Redstone, D. Barry Reardon, Art Sanborn and Tim Warner.
