Just hours before festgoers would begin climbing the red carpet at the Palais for the opening night screening of “Primary Colors,” workers around town were still getting ready for the kick-off of the festival and market.

Meanwhile, helmer Martin Scorsese, ready to report for jury duty, mugged for the press and banged the clapboard as a signal to start the 51st fest, where he’ll serve as jury president.
