Joins company from Film Roman licensing group

David A. Palmer has been named vice president of marketing for the MGM consumer products division, where he’ll work on the development of trade and marketing programs for the studio’s expanding lines of merchandise rising from MGM and United Artists characters and other properties.

In the new post, Palmer — who joins MGM from Film Roman licensing group — will be responsible for brand positioning, marketing, advertising and public relations, and will collaborate all efforts with the division’s sales department to determine promotional strategies. He’ll also take an active role in product and retail development.

At Film Roman, Palmer most recently served as vice president for marketing, sales, promotions and retail. Previously, he served as a consultant to Blockbuster Music, where he developed marketing strategies for the chain’s West Coast retail outlets. Other marketing experience includes a 1992-1995 stint as Turner Broadcasting System’s director of marketing, licensing and merchandising.
