Bracchita taking the lead

To grandmother’s house they’ll go! Jonathan Pollard, Bernie Kukoff, Tony Converse and James Hammerstein will bow a new laffer, “Over the River and Through the Woods” Off Broadway at the John Houseman Theater.

The producers will expand their “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” triumvirate to include Converse, and will team again with “I Love You” helmer Joel Bishoff, and author/lyricist Joe DiPietro. DiPietro’s “I Love You” is now in its third year Off Broadway at the Westside Theater.

The four “Over” producers have inked a deal with thesp Jim Bracchita (last seen on Broadway in the Tyne Daly starrer “Gypsy”) to star in the lead role. Logline for “Over,” as the title suggests, is about the troubles at grandmother’s house when a career move by Bracchitta’s character triggers vigorous debate and interference in matters gastronomy, marriage and love — involving all four grandparents.

Bracchitta had recently starred in the national company of Neil Simon’s “Broadway Bound.” Female lead opposite Bracchitta is still being cast, as are the meddling geriatrics; final casting decisions are expected by midweek.

Preview performances for “Over” are set to begin on September 18, and the legiter will bow on October 5. final casting decisions are expected by midweek.
