East-West taps new chair

Fukuhara-Arthurs takes over Asian-Pacific theater

Members of East West Players, the country’s oldest Asian-Pacific theater, have elected Lynn Fukuhara-Arthurs to the chairmanship of the board of directors.

In addition, Evelyn Kiyomi Emi and Lawrence O’Connor became board co-presidents, alongside Daniel M. Mayeda as vice president, Rod Y. Nakamoto as chief financial officer and Helen Mendoza as secretary.

EWP recently moved its headquarters to the David Henry Hwang Theater at Union Center for the Arts in the Little Tokyo district of downtown Los Angeles. A fundraising committee headed by Beulah Quo and George Takei raised more than $1.6 million to renovate and retrofit the theater.

EWP’s new show, “Everything You Wanted to Know About Asian Men,” directed by Dan Kwong and Gary San Angel, opens Aug. 14 for a three-day run. It showcases new works by members of Kwong’s workshop on autobiographical writing and performing.
