CHICAGO — The Gotham-based Jujamcyn Theaters Corp. and the Chi-based Perkins Theaters Inc. have agreed to sell the Royal George Theater in Chicago to Reading Entertainment, a conglomerate that operates movie theaters in the United States, along with various entertainment facilities in Puerto Rico and Australia.
The Royal George, a four-theater complex at 1641 N. Halsted Street, will be managed by Alan J. Shuster, president of Union Square Management in New York. Based in New York, Shuster also manages a group of Off Broadway theaters, including the Union Square Theater, the Orpheum Theater and the Minetta Lane Theater.
The Royal George is previewing the first North American production of “Art” outside New York. The press opening is slated for Sept. 27.
