Cable’s NY1 hits the boards

Plans launch of legit show to correspond with Tony noms

NEW YORK — New York 1 News, Time Warner Cable’s 24-hour news channel serving Gotham and Westchester, will launch a weekly theater show covering Broadway and Off Broadway. The show will air 9:30-10 p.m. Mondays, and will seek to exploit the Tony Awards hoopla by making its debut on May 4, the day of the Tony nominations.

The show, as yet unnamed, will be tripartite, with “theater news upfront, reviews and re-reviews, and interviews with Broadway stars and producers,” said Steve Paulus, senior VP for news at New York 1.

The organizing principle, Paulus says, is to provide a “utilitarian look at the theater world” in New York City — covering both Broadway and Off Broadway. New York 1 senior correspondent Sharon Dizenhuz will host the show, and daytime anchor Roma Torre will act as a contributing correspondent.
