Biz slips; 'Chicago' 614g

NEW YORK – Broadway grosses dropped off slightly during Week 34 (Jan. 19-25), with receipts falling 3.4% to $10,512,426, and attendance slipping 3.7% to 226,035.

Broadway had the first of four consecutive kids nights Jan. 20: 28 of the current shows gave free tickets to any child accompanied by a paying adult.

“Grease” closed out its long run Jan. 25; the tuner has been on the boards at the O’Neill since May 1994.

“Patti LaBelle on Broadway” played the second and final week of its limited engagement at the St. James, bringing in a strong $482,179 and playing to 89% attendance.

Receipts for the musicals totaled $9,464,731, 90% of the Broadway total, with paid attendance of 196,956 at 80.3% of musical capacity. Receipts for the plays totaled $1,047,695, 10% of the Broadway total, with paid attendance of 29,079 at 63.5% of play capacity.

Average ticket prices were $46.51 for all shows, $48.06 for musicals and $36.03 for plays.
