“As Bees in Honey Drown” has posted its notice. The Off Broadway comedy hit will shutter on Sunday after 392 performances at the Lucille Lortel Theater.
Douglas Carter Beane, the play’s author, has had sold its screen rights to Universal Pictures for an upcoming pic.
Produced by the New York-based Drama Dept., it was presented by Edgar Lansbury, Everett King, Randal Wreghitt, Chase Mishkin, Leonard Soloway and Steven Levy, by special arrangement with Lucille Lortel.
The play won strong reviews for its leading actress, J. Smith-Cameron, who left the show in March. “Frasier” star Peri Gilpin took over the role May 26.
