Woodard into ‘Mumford’

Reunites thesp with helmer Kasdan

Alfre Woodard will reteam with “Grand Canyon” helmer Lawrence Kasdan to star in Touchstone Pictures’ “Mumford.”

Woodard will play Lily, a quirky cafe proprietor, in the film about a small Midwestern town whose citizens are shocked to learn that a beloved local psychologist and matchmaker is an impostor.

She joins previously announced cast members Loren Dean, Ted Danson, Elizabeth Perkins and Jason Lee.

“Mumford,” scheduled to begin shooting in May in Northern California, is written and directed by Kasdan, who will also produce along with Charlie Okun and Linda Goldstein.

Woodard, who was Oscar-nominated in 1983 for her supporting role in “Cross Creek,” recently starred in Maya Angelou’s “Down in the Delta,” which will be released theatrically by Miramax.

Her other recent credits include Paramount’s “Star Trek: First Contact” and “Primal Fear.” Woodard’s deal was brokered by Steve Dontanville of ICM.
