‘Wind’ to open Santa Barbara kids’ film fest

Panels will address H'wood young set

Terry Jones’ screen version of “The Wind and the Willows,” which features such fellow Monty Python alumni as Eric Idle, Michael Palin, John Cleese and Steve Coogan, will be the opening night attraction at the second annual Santa Barbara Kids’ Film Festival, which runs Oct. 2-4.

Eight additional feature films will be screened, along with selections of shorts, underwater films and the best of the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival.

Two panels led by high school students will be offered: “Kids on Acting II,” in which young actors employed in Hollywood will discuss the business, and a “Behind the Magic Curtain” seminar in which John Teton and Mike Allison from Earthlight Pictures Animation Training will address aspects of traditional and digital animation.

Also skedded is a two-day “Young Filmmakers’ Mentor Workshop,” in which kids 12-18 will be advised by industry professionals in the preparation and planning of their own video shorts, the results of which will be presented at the following year’s fest.
