Jeanne Tripplehorn (“Basic Instinct”) has joined the cast of “Abbie!,” the indie biopic of ’60s radical Abbie Hoffman, directed and produced by Robert Greenwald.
Based on the books “To America With Love: Letters From the Underground” by Anita Hoffman and “Abbie Hoffman: American Rebel” by Marty Jezer, pic was adapted by Bob Ward and Bruce Graham.
Vincent D’Onofrio stars as Hoffman; Janeane Garofalo plays his wife, Anita; and Tripplehorn takes on the role of Johanna Lawrenson, a former model who falls in love with Hoffman and becomes his “underground partner.”
Kevin Pollak co-stars, and Kevin Corrigan has been cast as compatriot, Jerry Rubin. “Abbie!” began lensing Aug. 27 in Toronto.
Jon Avnet is exec producing along with D’Onofrio and Ken Christmas. Liz Selzer and Jacobus Rose are co-producers.
Tripplehorn next can be seen in Peter Berg’s directorial debut, “Very Bad Things,” from Polygram, followed by Castle Rock’s “Mickey Blue Eyes.”Tripplehorn is repped by the William Morris Agency’s Michelle Stern; and managers Danny Sussman and Cynthia Pett-Dante of Brillstein-Grey.
