He'll star alongside Epps, Nelson, Jones in 'Wood'

HOLLYWOOD — Thesp Taye Diggs, best known for his starring role as Benny the landlord in the Broadway production of “Rent,” is set for a three-stage entry onto the bigscreen with roles in three upcoming films, including a newly landed role on MTV Films’ feature drama “The Wood.”

In “Wood,” written and directed by first-timer Rick Famuyiwa, who developed the script at Sundance Screenwriters Institute, Diggs joins stars Omar Epps, Sean Nelson and Richard T. Jones.

Pic is a coming-of-age story about three middle-class African-American kids growing up in Inglewood, following them from pre-teen years to adulthood. MTV Films is based at Paramount.

Diggs also recently completed production on Col-TriStar’s “Go,” by “Swingers” helmer Doug Liman, starring Christina Ricci, Scott Wolf and Jay Mohr.

Diggs next will be seen opposite Angela Bassett in the August release of “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” the 20th Century Fox screen adaptation of a novel by Terry McMillan.
