“Saturday Night Live” regular Will Ferrell and Elaine Hendrix, currently onscreen in Disney’s “The Parent Trap,” will join Molly Shannon in the cast of Saturday Night Studios’ “Superstar.”
The Lorne Michaels-produced pic will be co-financed by NBC and distributed worldwide by Paramount Pictures through Michaels’ recently inked feature deal.
Ferrell is cast as Sky, the male lead opposite Shannon’s Mary Katherine Gallagher, the nerdy Catholic Girl character she developed on “Saturday Night Live.”
Hendrix plays Evian, one of three beautiful but bitchy girls (the other two are named Winter and Summer) who make life hard for Shannon’s character.
The comedy, which is directed by Bruce McCulloch and written by Steven Koren, begins shooting Aug. 17 in Toronto.
Ferrell will star with Shannon and Chris Kattan in “A Night at the Roxbury,” another SNL spin-off feature for Paramount, which opens wide Oct. 2.
His upcoming roles include “The Suburbans” with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Ben Stiller, and “Dick” with Kirsten Dunst. He was repped in the deal by UTA.
Hendrix was repped in the deal by Steven Levy and David Rose of Innovative Artists, and managers Glenn Rigberg and Jay B. Roberts.
