HOLLYWOOD — Steven Spielberg’s next film as director will be a screen adaptation of Arthur Golden’s novel “Memoirs of a Geisha” for Columbia Pictures and DreamWorks, the studios announced Tuesday.
The novel, which Columbia acquired for Douglas Wick’s Red Wagon Prods. last year in a $1 million deal, is the story of Nitta Sayuri, a 9-year-old girl sold into slavery in 1929 who becomes a renowned Japanese geisha.
