Sony Classics picks up Quinns’ ‘Father’

Pic production is family affair

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American rights to the drama “This Is My Father,” a collaboration of brothers Paul, Declan and Aidan Quinn.

Written and directed by Paul Quinn, “Father” stars Aidan Quinn, Moya Farrelly, Stephen Rea, James Caan and Jacob Tierney. It was produced by Filmline Intl.’s Nicolas Clermont and Phillip King.

Franchise Pictures’ Elie Samaha, who put the pic together with Clermont, is executive producer.

Cinematographer Declan Quinn, whose credits include “Kama Sutra,” “One Night Stand” and the upcoming “One True Thing,” is the director of photography.

The film opens in the present when a middle-aged man (Caan) travels to Ireland with his troubled nephew (Tierney) in hopes of discovering the true identity of his father.

The film then shifts to the past and the ill-fated affair between young lovers played by Farrelly and Aidan Quinn.

The deal was negotiated by Samaha and Clermont, on behalf of the filmmakers, and Michael Barker, Tom Bernard and Marcie Bloom for SPC.
