ShoWest nod for supporting acting to Allen

'Face/Off' vet to receive award March 12 in Las Vegas

Joan Allen, who had leading roles in the action-thriller “Face/Off” and in the drama “The Ice Storm” in 1997, will receive ShoWest’s supporting actress of the year award. The actress will accept her honor March 12 at the awards ceremony at Bally’s Hotel in Las Vegas.

Allen, who will next appear opposite Jeff Daniels in New Line’s “Pleasantville,” has twice been nominated for best supporting actress Oscars. Her first nomination was for her role as Pat Nixon in Oliver Stone’s “Nixon” and her second for Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible.”

Aleen’s other film credits include “Searching for Bobby Fisher,” “Peggy Sue Got Married’ and “Ethan Frome.” She is also a prominent theater actress, having won every major prize for her work on and Off Broadway.
