Universal Pictures’ upcoming Robin Williams starrer “Patch Adams” will make its debut on Oct. 21 at this year’s ShowEast confab being held at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort from Oct. 19-22 in Atlantic City.
Slated for a Christmas release, the comedy was directed and co-written by Tom Shadyac and is based on the real-life story of a misfit physician whose unconventional approach to medicine causes headaches for the establishment and does wonders for his patients.
“Robin Williams was born to play the role of Patch Adams,” said Nikki Rocco, Universal’s president of distribution.
The pic was co-written by Steve Oedekerk and produced by Barry Kemp, Mike Farrell, Marvin Minoff and Marsha Williams. The executive producers are Charles Newirth and Tom Shadyac.
Shadyac is the director of other comic clicks such as, “Liar, Liar,” “The Nutty Professor” and “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.”
Williamswon this year’s award for best supporting actor for his performance in “Good Will Hunting.”
