ShowEast fetes Brest

Helm to follow Brooks, Ephron, Howard with Eastman nod

Director Martin Brest, whose Universal Pictures film “Meet Joe Black” has been tapped to close this year’s ShowEast exhibitors confab, will receive the George Eastman Award during a ceremony Oct. 22 at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. ShowEast runs from Oct. 19-22.

The prize recognizes filmmakers whose body of work “is exemplary, respected and admired industrywide,” according to the organizers. Past recipients include James L. Brooks, Nora Ephron, Ron Howard and Brian DePalma.

“Black,” which stars Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins, is skedded for a Nov. 13 release. Brest also directed “Scent of a Woman,” “Midnight Run” and “Beverly Hills Cop.”
