Touchstone and Caravan Pictures have inked sitcom writer-producer Bennie Richburg Jr. and former music exec Jeffery Dyson to a low-six-figure deal to script a relationship-themed comedy feature for Eddie Murphy’s the Murphy Co.
Murphy, upon whose idea the project is based, has not been attached to act in the pic but will receive producing credit with Ray Murphy Jr. of the Murphy Co. Project goes under the working title of “My Baby’s Mother.” Caravan’s Roger Birnbaum and Jonathan Glickman are also attached to produce.
No other talent has been attached, according to sources.
Sitcom vet Richburg is in the middle of a two-year comedy production and development deal with Warner Bros. Television, and is currently exec producer of the WB netlet sitcom “The Jamie Foxx Show.”
Dyson is a former VP at music management firm 617 Entertainment, based in Los Angeles. He also has co-written an optioned, but still-unproduced, screenplay.
Todd Garner at Touchstone will shepherd the project at the studio.
CAA negotiated the Richburg/Dyson script deal. Richburg was also repped by attorney Nina Shaw, and Dyson by attorney Jeffrey Jacquet.
