Alessandro Nivola, last seen as Nicolas Cage’s slightly less crazy brother in “Face/Off,” steps up to leading man status in “Mansfield Park.”

The pic, an adaptation of the Jane Austen novel directed by Patricia Rozema, is a co-production between Miramax, BBC Films and Hal Films.

The pic will begin shooting in London on Aug. 20.

Nivola just completed “I Want You,” the Michael Winterbottom film for Gramercy, and he also stars in “Best Laid Plans” for Fox 2000, with Reese Witherspoon and Josh Brolin, and Michael Barker directing.

Nivola is repped by CAA and Industry Entertainment’s Eric Kranzler.
