New Regency buys into crime thriller

Catches pitch from Summers, Calei, Cooley

New Regency has picked up an untitled crime thriller pitch developed by producer Cathleen Summers, Italian helmer Carlo Carlei and scribe Dennis Cooley.

Carlei (“Flight of the Innocent,” “Fluke”) is attached to direct as well as produce along with Summers. Cooley will pen the script, which is based loosely on the 1996 Los Angeles Times story “A Tale of Two Classmates” by Miles Corwin.

Carlei optioned the rights out of his own pocketand took it to Summers — who brought in Cooley — to develop. New Regency execs Caryn Landau-Schiff and Kara Francis are credited with bringing in the pitch.

Carlei’s deal was brokered by CAA. Cooley was repped by the Gersh Agency.
