NEW YORK — Kate Nelligan has inked a deal that will place her opposite Paul Rudd in the Miramax-distribbed pic, “Cider House Rules.”
Pic is being helmed by Lasse Hallstrom from John Irving’s novel. Principal photography is skedded to roll next week in Brattleboro, Vt., and Lenox, Mass., and elsewhere in New England. Irving novel was set entirely in Maine.
Nelligan will play Olive, the mother of Wally Worthington (Rudd), an Army pilot on leave at home due to his father’s death. Tobey Maguire plays Homer Wells, an orphan who falls in love with a black woman.
Nelligan’s deal was confirmed “Rules” producer Richard Gladstein at FilmColony, who recently produced the ’70’s pic “54.”
The actress’s deal comes less than a month after she switched from ICM to Innovative Artists on Aug. 18. She is repped there by Richie Jackson; the deal was brokered by Jackson and Innovative’s Gary Gersh.
Nelligan was Oscar-nominated for her supporting perf in “Prince of Tides,” and was Tony-nominated for “Spoils of War,” “A Moon for the Misbegotten,” “Serious Money” and “Plenty.”
