Redgrave's 'Dalloway' comes in 2nd

Lions Gate’s “Love and Death on Long Island” kept its hold on the exclusives roster’s top slot for the third consecutive weekend.

Richard Kwietniowski’s tale of romantic obsession stalked $51,778 in five alleys in New York and Los Angeles.

First Look’s “Mrs. Dalloway” was the second most popular limited-release film. The Vanessa Redgrave starrer picked $28,135 in four garden strolls on both coasts.

Joining the roster in third place was Milestone’s “Fireworks.” Takeshi Kitano’s Japanese-language drama set off $28,035 in two explosions in Gotham and L.A.

Newcomers included Miramax’s first family film, “Wide Awake,” which uncovered $25,864 in six bedrooms, and Zeitgeist’s “Taste of Cherry,” which sampled $9,688 from one Gotham vendor.

The following are the weekend grosses of films playing on a limited number of screens in New York and Los Angeles.

Los Angeles

“Wide Awake” (Miramax) opened to $4,068 in its first at the Cineplex Odeon Universal City 18, $3,926 in its first at the AMC Century 14, $3,907 at the Mann Criterion 6 and $3,211 at the GCC Beverly Connection 6.

“Fireworks” (Milestone) debuted with $13,593 in its first at the Landmark Nuart.

“Love and Death on Long Island” (Lions Gate) fell 38% to $7,550 in its third at the Laemmle Sunset 5 and 33% to $4,992 in its third at the Laemmle Monica.

“Men With Guns” (Sony Classics) slid 43% to $3,869 in its second at the Landmark Samuel Goldwyn Pavilion.

“Post Coitum” (New Yorker) bowed to $2,699 at the Laemmle Music Hall and $3,136 at the Landmark NuWilshire.

“Niagara Niagara” (TSG) debuted with $2,993 at the Laemmle Royal and $2,741 at the Cineplex Odeon Beverly Center.

“Afterglow” (Sony Classics) climbed 12% to $5,228 in its sixth at the Laemmle Music Hall.

“Live Flesh” (MGM) rang up $3,956 in its first at the Laemmle Sunset 5.

“Ma Vie En Rose” (Sony Classics) surrendered 14% to $3,186 in its second at the Laemmle Monica.

“Mrs. Dalloway” (First Look) declined 30% to $2,668 in its fifth at the Landmark Samuel Goldwyn Pavilion.

“Courting Courtney” (Legacy) bowed to $1,890 at the Mann Fourplex Westwood.

“Four Days in September” (Miramax) lost 3% to $1,224 in its second at the Landmark NuWilshire.

“The Real Blonde” (Paramount) gave up 84% to $319 in its fourth at the Cineplex Odeon Beverly Center. It rang up $840 at the Mann Fourplex Westwood.

“A Rat’s Tale” (Legacy) bowed to $333 at the Laemmle Monica.

New York

“Love and Death on Long Island” declined 27% to $15,309 in its third at the City Cinemas Angelika, 23% to $14,984 in its third at Lincoln Plaza and 30% to $8,943 in its third at the City Cinemas 1, 2 and Third Avenue.

“Mrs. Dalloway” faded 15% to $10,671 in its fifth at Lincoln Plaza, 18% to $9,358 in its fifth at the City Cinemas Angelika and 25% to $5,438 at the City Cinemas Eastside Playhouse.

“Men With Guns” surrendered 31% to $9,616 in its third at the City Cinemas Angelika and 25% to $8,474 in its third at Lincoln Plaza.

“Post Coitum” dropped 38% to $10,796 in its second at Lincoln Plaza and 33% to $6,728 in its second at the Quad.

“Live Flesh” withered 18% to $10,598 in its 10th at the City Cinemas Angelika and 36% to $4,387 in its second at the Cineplex Odeon 62nd Street.

“Fireworks” bowed to $14,442 at the Film Forum.

“Mean Streets” (Warner Bros. reissue) fell 12% to $11,096 in its second at the Film Forum.

“Niagara Niagara” bowed to $11,011 at the City Cinemas Village East.

“Wide Awake” debuted with $6,076 at Sony Lincoln Square and $4,676 at the City Cinemas 1, 2 and Third Avenue.

“Taste of Cherry” (Zeitgeist) bowed to $9,688 at the Quad.

“Afterglow” faded 16% to $6,188 in its 13th at the Cineplex Odeon Regency.

“Ma Vie En Rose” gave up 8% to $6,804 in its 13th at the Quad.

“Mendel” (First Run) bowed to $5,408 at the Quad.

“A Personal Journey With Martin Scorsese” (Miramax) fell 47% to $3,810 in its third at the Crown Gotham.

“The Real Blonde” faded 84% to $998 in its fourth at the Cineplex Odeon Chelsea. It rang up $1,436 in its first at the Cineplex Odeon 59th Street East and $822 in its first at the Cineplex Odeon Art Greenwich.

“The Leading Man” (Northern Arts) bowed to $2,411 at the City Cinemas Village East.

“Four Days in September” sank 11% to $1,633 in its third at the City Cinemas Village East.
