Lloyd Allen, dead at 79

Retired asst. director

Lloyd Allen, a retired assistant director and unit production manager, died Jan. 21 at the Motion Picture & Television Hospital in Woodland Hills following a lengthy illness. He was 79.

A native of Mobile, Ala., Allen began his career in Hollywood in 1939, working for a number of independent studios as well as Fox, Warner Bros. and Paramount.

He served as an assistant director on such films as “Broken Arrow” (1950), “Rear Window” (1954) and “The Ten Com-mandments” (1956).

In 1977 Allen was nominated for the Directors Guild of America Award for best assistant director for his work on the TV miniseries “Washington: Behind Closed Doors.”

He is survived by his wife, Linda Pearse Allen.

Family suggests donations in Allen’s name be made to the Motion Picture & Television Fund.
