Jinji-Bear begins on ‘Journey’

Newly formed production company sets first project

Producer Jill Powell and writer-director Steven Feinberg have teamed up to form film production banner Jinji-Bear Prods.

The company’s first project started with the low-six-figure rights acquisition of novel “Night Journey” by Avi, the celebrated, single-named children’s book author.

Feinberg, who will direct the film in what will be his debut helming job, is also adapting the screenplay, to be titled “Peter York,” after the central character. Story, set in the year 1767 in the pre-revolutionary American colonies, is about a young orphan boy who leads two runaway indentured servants across the Delaware River to freedom.

Feinberg had a writing credit on the 1993 sci-fi pic “Fortress.” Powell was one of nine founding investors in the Cheesecake Factory national restaurant franchise.

Avi was repped in the deal by agent Evva Pryor of McIntosh and Otis.
