MILAN — Making his feature film debut as an actor, Slavic director Emir Kusturica has signed on for a role in Patrice Leconte’s “La Veuve de St.Pierre.”
Eric Lagesse of Flach Pyramide film sales said that as the producers were searching for someone “of impressive stature,” Kusturica seemed the perfect fit. Also according to Lagesse, Kusturica’s tests with co-star Juliette Binoche were “fantastic.”
The pic is a tale of redemption centering on a prisoner who has been condemned to death, but who is forced to wait until the proper ‘equipment’ needed to carry out the sentence can be delivered. Against the wishes of local society, Binoche’s character provides solace to the prisoner.
The pic is being shot in French and although Kusturica is not a native speaker his role requires very little talk. Lagesse says, however, that he will be coached in French.
