Greek pic festival to feature Bertolucci

Helmer Loach guest of honor, Fest ends 'Besieged'

THESSALONIKI, Greece — The 1998 Cannes Palme d’Or winner, Theo Angelopoulos, will preside over this year’s Thessaloniki International Film Festival, which runs from Nov. 13 through Nov. 22.

The festival opens with “Bure Baruta” by Goran Paskaljevich and rounds things off with Oscar-winning Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci’s latest film “Besieged.”

The guest of honor at the 39th edition of the festival is British director, Ken Loach.

Other events include the “New Horizons” section on independent filmmaking, a look into Balkan filmmaking and the festival of Greek films running in parallel to the international competition.
