Gray to helm ‘Nutty II’

Grazer to produce for Imagine and U

F. Gary Gray has signed to direct Eddie Murphy in “The Nutty Professor II,” which will begin shooting in August, sources said. Brian Grazer is producing the film for Imagine and Universal.

After helming the low-cost/high-gross films “Friday” and “Set it Off” at New Line, Gray recently directed Kevin Spacey and Samuel L. Jackson in “The Negotiator” for Warner Bros.

U and Imagine have a script ready from Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield which brings Murphy back to his role as the portly Sherman Klump, as well as the members of his family.

The original film, directed by Tom Shadyac, grossed $129 million domestic and $141 million foreign, for a worldwide gross of $270 million.

ICM’s Richard Feldman repped Gray.
