Gordon-Levitt joins cast of ’10’

'3rd Rock' vet tackles teen adaptation of 'Shrew'

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the precocious kid on “Third Rock From the Sun,” has inked for a role in Touchstone Pictures’ “10 Things I Hate About You,” the teen adaptation of “Taming of the Shrew.”

Gordon-Levitt will play Cameron, who is in love with Bianca (Larisa Oleynik). He joins thesps Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles, who play Patrick and Kat in the Shakespeare play, updated and set in high school.

The pic will mark Gordon-Levitt’s first adult role after having played a kid in such pics as “The Juror,” “Angels in the Outfield” and “A River Runs Through It.”

Sources said he was making a high six-figure salary on the pic.

Gil Junger is helming from a screenplay by Karen Lutz and Kirsten Smith with a nod to Shakespeare.

The present-day storyline is about a cocky high school senior who is “hired” to date a pretty student in his class. Complications arise when he finds himself falling in love with her.

Andrew Lazar is producing. Seth Jaret of Revolution Entertainment and Jeffrey Chernov are exec producers.

Gordon-Levitt, a regular on “Third Rock,” will appear in the upcoming “Halloween 6: The Revenge of Laurie Strode.” His other feature credits include “Holy Matrimony” and “Roadflower.”

His deal was brokered by Leslie Siebert and Mark Schumacher of the Gersh Agency.
