Goldwyn nabs ‘Dwarf’ rights

Le Moine making helming bow on pic

The Samuel Goldwyn Co. has acquired North American rights to Belgian romantic drama “The Red Dwarf.”

Pic, which premiered in Directors Fortnight at Cannes, marks the directorial debut of Yvan Le Moine and is based on a short story by Michel Tournier.

John Bard Manulis, Goldwyn’s head of production and acquisitions, made the announcement.

“Dwarf” is about Lucien (Jean-Yves Thual), a hardworking but lonely employee, who has a torrid affair with Paola, a voluptuous opera singer (Anita Ekberg).

The revitalized Goldwyn’s other acquisitions include Bigas Luna’s “The Chambermaid and the Titanic.”
