'Reconstruction' optioned in five-figure deal
NEW YORK — Fox 2000 has optioned “Reconstruction,” an unpublished short story by 29-year-old college professor Susan Perabo.
The story, to appear in “Some Say the World,” a collection of Perabo’s short stories yet to be published by Simon & Schuster, centers around a husband who fakes amnesia to keep hold of a wife about to divorce him.
The five-figure option was negotiated by CAA’s Sally Willcox on behalf of Perabo’s literary agent Elyse Cheney of Sanford J. Greenburger Associates Inc. Perabo’s S&S deal, said to be $200,000 for the short story collection and an upcoming novel, was one of a recent flurry of significant deals as publishers look for the next hot literary novelist in the wake of such successes as Charles Frazier’s “Cold Mountain.”
Perabo, who teaches creative writing at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., has published in literary magazines.
