Fest hearing ‘Voices’

Five features skedded for sidebar

NEW YORK — Telefilm Canada will sponsor “New Voices: Canada,” a sidebar showcasing five new Canadian feature films at the Independent Feature Film Market, which runs from Sept. 18-25 at the Angelika Film Center in New York.

This marks the eighth year that the IFFM has hosted the Canadian sidebar, which this year features:

  • Christene Browne’s “Another Planet,” in which a young black woman from Toronto discovers her African roots on a Quebecois pig farm;

  • Bruno Lazaro Pacheco’s “City of Dark,” an edgy cocktail of science fiction, documentary and high-tech suspense;

  • Bruce Sweeney’s “Dirty,” a black comedy that follows the lives of six dysfunctional Vancouver residents;

  • Jerry Ciccotti’s “Boy Meets Girl,” a love story starring Kate Nelligan and Joe Mantegna; and

  • Yan Cui and Qi Chang’s “Yellow Wedding,” which traces a prominent psychologist’s plunge into midlife crisis, mental breakdown and newfound passion.
