Donaldson to guide ‘Guide’

'Dante's Peak' helmer to focus on Whitefield again

Director Roger Donaldson is attached to helm “The Guide” for Mutual and Paramount. The pic would be the first for Donaldson since last winter’s geothermal actioner “Dante’s Peak.”

“Devil’s Advocate” scribe Jonathan Lemkin is scripting the pic, which is based on a series of novels by author Thomas Perry.

“The Guide” focuses on Perry’s recurring character Jane Whitefield, a Seneca Indian who helps people escape life-threatening situations and obtain new identities.

Donaldson’s previous credits include “Species,” “Cocktail,” “The Getaway,” “White Sands,” “Cadillac Man” and “No Way Out.”

Mutual is currently represented onscreen by the kidpic “Paulie,” which it produced for DreamWorks, as well as “Black Dog” and “Primary Colors,” which it co-financed with Universal.
