Docu group to honor NYU prof

Stoney to receive Preservation & Scholarship Award Oct. 30

Vet documentarian and NYU professor George Stoney will receive the Intl. Documentary Assn.’s Preservation & Scholarship Award at the IDA’s 14th annual awards bash on Oct. 30.

Stoney, an 81-year-old professor of film and TV at New York U.’s Tisch School of Arts, made more than 50 docus, including “The Uprising of ’34,” which aired in 1995 on the PBS series “POV.”

Stoney also co-founded the Alternate Media Center at NYU, which is credited with sparking the movement for public access to TV and cable.

The IDA’s awards event will take place at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in the L.A. beach community of Marina del Rey. For more information, call (310) 284-8422.
