Rapper adds to acting resume with role in Miramax pic
Continuing to build his acting resume, “Halloween: H20” co-star LL Cool J is set to join Omar Epps in the Miramax thriller “In Too Deep,” to be helmed by Michael Rymer.
In the pic, which is based on a true story, Epps (“Scream 2,” “Mod Squad”) will play an undercover cop who, while infiltrating a drug ring run by a widely feared dealer (Cool J), gets lost in that violent underworld.
Paul Aaron and Michael Henry Brown penned the screenplay and will produce the film, which is slated to go before the cameras in late October in Toronto.
Amy Slotnick and Jeremy Kramer, reporting to production co-president Meryl Poster, are overseeing the film for Miramax.
Cool J is filming the Renny Harlin-helmed actioner “Deep Blue Sea,” which will be released by Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow. This follows his most recent role co-starring with Jamie Lee Curtis in Dimension’s “Halloween: H20.”
The rapper/actor also appeared recently on the HBO series “Oz,” and he has signed on to shoot six more episodes of his sitcom “In the House” for NBC.
Cool J is repped by ICM’s Jason Barrett and Ron West and manager Jeff Golenberg of 3 Arts Entertainment.
Cary Meadow, Miramax senior VP of business and legal affairs, negotiated the deal for the studio.
