Pic's move to January start creates sked conflict
After weeks of rumors that he might be benched on Warner Bros.’ Oliver Stone-helmed “Any Given Sunday,” rap artist Sean “Puffy” Combs has ankled the pro pigskin pic over scheduling conflicts.
The pic, which has a first-string cast including Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz, James Woods, Dennis Quaid and Lauren Holly, had been skedded to shoot sometime in November.
But Warner Bros. and Stone are now targeting January for a start. The move may create more havoc for other cast members, some of whom have spring commitments.
“My understanding is that everyone else but him (Combs) is fine with the new schedule,” said a Warner spokeswoman.
Though he did not describe them, Combs said in a statement that the switch would create “conflicts with my other professional commitments … It is clear that this is not a film in which I will be involved.”
But he confirmed his “dedication to acting and producing,” citing discussions he’s having with Warner Bros. and Miramax about several projects.
For his part, Stone was nonplused by the Combs departure, saying: “I am an admirer of Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs and trust we can find another project on which to collaborate.”
