Thesp Casey Affleck, coming off the critical and box office hit “Good Will Hunting,” has inked to join the cast of two upcoming indie productions: “Desert Blue” and “200 Cigarettes.”
“Desert” will shoot in Nevada under the direction of Sundance award winner Morgan J. Freeman, who co-wrote the pic. Affleck, brother of “Good Will Hunting” star and co-writer Ben Affleck, will play opposite Christina Ricci, Sara Gilbert and Brendan Sexton III in the ensemble drama about life in a small town on what might be its last day in existence. Pic is being produced by Andrea Sperling and Nadia Leonelli.
Affleck will next hook up with “200 Cigarettes,” a project to be helmed by well-known casting director Risa Bramon Garcia, for Mike Newell and Alan Greenspan’s Dogstar Prods. and MTV Films. Script is by Shana Larsen. Dogstar’s Betsy Beers and MTV’s David Gale will produce the film, which follows various twentysomething revelers making their way to the same party on New Year’s Eve 1981, in New York City’s East Village.
Affleck’s previous film credits include “To Die For,” “Chasing Amy” and “Race the Sun.” He’s repped by CAA.
