BERLIN – Martin Scorsese has agreed to executive produce “Brides,” the next project by Greek director Pantelis Voulgaris.
According to Scorsese’s New York-based Capella Prods., Scorsese will have some say on the pic’s final cut.
The largely English-lingo pic is based on the true story of a transatlantic liner that traveled between the Balkans and New York in 1922 with 700 mail-order brides on board.
Chicago-based producer Valerie Gobis is currently in the process of raising the pic’s projected $8 million to $10 million budget. The lead roles of Niki, a Greek seamstress, and Norman, an American photographer, have yet to be cast. “Brides” is expected to start shooting in 1999.
