Blue Sky/VIFX climbs in f/x ring with ‘Fight Club’

Pic skedded for 1999 release

Blue Sky/VIFX, the bicoastal special effects house, has been tapped to do animation and effects work for Fox 2000’s “Fight Club,” directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt, Helena Bonham Carter and Edward Norton.

The team handling the “Fight Club” contract is based at the company’s Harrison, N.Y. offices. Blue Sky/VIFX also has offices in Marina Del Rey.

“We’re thrilled to be working with a director of David Fincher’s caliber and artistic vision,” said Blue Sky CEO David Brown. “We look forward to creating some very exciting animation and visual effects for this new film.”

Close encounters

Blue Sky employees, including animation director Carlos Saldanha, exec producer Nina Rappaport and producer Christopher Scollard, will work closely with “Fight Club’s” visual effects supervisor Kevin Haug and visual effects producer Robin D’Arcy.

“Fight Club” is skedded for a 1999 release.

Blue Sky was recently awarded a contract to design nine photo-realistic airplanes for Mike Newell’s “Pushing Tin” starring John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton. The 20th Century Fox pic will be released in March 1999.
