“Ma Vie en Rose” helmer Alain Berliner is close to a deal to direct “Passion of Mind” for Lakeshore Entertainment, according to sources.
The film, based on a script by “Rain Man” scribe Ron Bass, concerns a woman whose life seemingly alternates between two parallel and irreconcilable existences: one as a widowed American mother of two living in Provence, the other as a single successful New York book editor.
“Passion” follows her quest to discover which life is real and which is a dream.
Since Bass penned the screenplay in the late 1980s, a number of top female stars have expressed interest in the project.
It was at one time developed as a vehicle for Michelle Pfeiffer. In another incarnation, Nicole Kidman was attached to star with John Duigan directing. Lakeshore acquired the script about a year ago.
The Belgian-born Berliner recently won a Golden Globe foreign film award for “Ma Vie en Rose,” his debut feature.
Neither Lakeshore execs nor Berliner’s agent, UTA’s Howard Cohen, could be reached for comment.
