Swiss film group Ascot Elite Entertainment Group, which has become increasingly aggressive following Polygram Film Intl.’s decision to set up a stand-alone distribution operation in Switzerland, has snapped up Swiss rights to Intermedia Films’ musical drama “Hilary and Jackie,” starring Emily Watson (“Breaking the Waves”).
The film, a biopic of the brilliant cellist Jacqueline Du Pre, who was struck down by multiple sclerosis in 1987 at the age of 42, is directed by Anand Tucker and produced by Andy Paterson and Nicolas Kent. Intermedia’s Guy East and Nigel Sinclair are executive producing.
Intermedia is co-financing the film, which is currently shooting in the U.K., with Channel Four Films and British Screen. “Hilary” is part-financed by the Greenlight Fund, which is funded by the National Lottery.
