Allen takes lead in ‘Sky’

Sheridan to helm Irish underworld pic

DUBLIN — Joan Allen has been cast as the lead in “Though the Sky Falls,” based on the life of a journalist and the perils that befall her as she gets closer to the rotten core of Dublin’s underworld.

Originally entitled “Double Crossed,” pic was to have starred Winona Ryder in the same role, which was a thinly disguised Veronica Guerin, the investigative journalist who was murdered in June 1996. Legit helmer and journalist Michael Sheridan claims to have worked on the script with former colleague Guerin, and has written the script, which he will direct, with Nigel Warren-Green of Irish Screen producing.

The $17 million “Sky Falls” is due to commence in late spring.
