Mitchell Praver has been named senior veepee of new media for National Geographic Ventures.
In the newly created post, Praver will coordinate new media initiatives within the NatGeo Ventures group, which encompasses NatGeo Television, NatGeo Maps and NatGeo Interactive.
“Mitch has the perfect combination of broad vision, deep and multifaceted industry experience, and bedrock pragmatism for this challenging role,” said Rick Allen, prexy and CEO of NatGeo Ventures.
Praver comes to NatGeo from Discovery Networks, where he served as VP of new media distribution. Before Discovery, Praver worked for a subsidiary of regional telco Bell Atlantic, where he led the team that developed the pioneering Stargazer video-on-demand TV service.
On the programming side, Praver worked as VP of program acquisitions and scheduling for the Lifetime cabler, and was veep of programming for the Katz Communications station rep firm. He also served stints in promotion and publicity for the ABC web and WABC-TV New York.
