Companies ready launch of portal war entry

Infoseek Corp. and Walt Disney Co. plan to name their joint Internet portal service Go Network, with launch slated for the fourth quarter.

Go Network will be available at http://www.go.com.

The portal is the product of Infoseek’s acquisition of Disney’s Starwave Corp. unit and a $70 million investment by Disney in Infoseek that gives Disney a 43% stake in the Internet navigation company.

The agreement also includes Disney’s purchase of Infoseek warrants, enabling the showbiz giant to own a majority stake in Infoseek over time and under certain conditions.
